A box office disappointment from 1982, John Carpenter's "The Thing" sent critics fleeing for the hills with it's very gory, and very detailed effects. Still held up to this day as an example of why practical effects stand up over time far better than CGI, most other life lessons you could learn from (blog post) this film.. are best not followed. Unless you like jail time, action movies I suppose.
